Description

The best-selling Little Blue Truck is now available in Spanish! El camioncito Azul is a joyful cacophony of animal and truck sounds in verse that will have youngsters beeping and quacking—and begging for one more go-round! Along the way, readers see that it pays to be kind to others. Jill McElmurry’s gouache illustrations of wild-eyed farm animals and country roads are warm and wonderful, suiting the cheerfully rhyming text of Alice Schertle to a T. This Spanish translation by award-winning poet Isabel Campoy maintains the rhyme and charm of the original, and the sturdy board book pages are sure to withstand many riotous read-aloud sessions.

About the Author

Alice Schertle is the acclaimed author of many children’s books, including William and Grandpa, recipient of the Christopher Award. Her poetry has been called “witty” (Kirkus Reviews), “vivid” (The Horn Book), and “unique” (ALA Booklist).

Jill McElmurry was the illustrator of many picture books, including When Otis Courted Mama by Kathi Appelt and the best-selling Little Blue Truck series, written by Alice Schertle. She happily divided her time between the wide landscape of New Mexico and a green island in Minnesota. Jill passed away in August 2017.

Praise for El camioncito Azul: Little Blue Truck (Spanish edition)

"Schertle's (All You Need for a Beach) rhyming stanzas are succinct, and she gives readers plenty of opportunities to chime in with animal and vehicle noises; colored, standout fonts highlight these sounds for extra effect. McElmurry's (Mad About Plaid) gouaches recall the heyday of Golden Books in their combination of vividness, naïveté and sweetness, and her rich palette achieves verisimilitude that is no less satisfying for being nostalgic."  --Publishers Weekly, starred review (4/28/08)
